Anneliese Midgley is the Labour MP for Knowsley, and has been an MP since 2024. She grew up in Stockbridge Village, then known as Cantril Farm, after her parents moved there from Everton and Liverpool. Anneliese ascribes her upbringing to shaping who she is and why she does the job she does. Her dad worked at the Ford Halewood plant, now Jaguar Land Rover Halewood. His secure, unionised job gave the family stability and the chance to buy their own home. Anneliese says this experience is why she believes strongly in good jobs, strong trade unions, and opportunity for every family.
Before becoming an MP, Anneliese was Political Director of Unite the Union and worked with the Trades Union Congress. She also worked as an advisor to Ken Livingstone at City Hall, served as Deputy Chief of Staff on Jeremy Corbyn’s 2015 leadership campaign, and later worked as a senior adviser to Keir Starmer.
Alongside her political work, music has always been a big part of Anneliese' life, and she currently sits on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. Following time in Paris aged 17, Anneliese came back to Liverpool and became part of Liverpool’s music and club scene. With a friend, she helped launch the now-iconic club night Liquidation, and later Le Bateau, both of which became well-known fixtures in the city’s cultural life. Anneliese also worked in the music industry, including doing press for the band Pulp and writing for various music publications.
